Man charged in knife threat

A Butler man is accused of brandishing a knife and threatening to stab another man during a weekend altercation outside a laundromat, city police said.

No one was injured.

Police arrested 42-year-old Matthew J. Landolfi on terroristic threats and other charges. He is in the Butler County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bond.

A call just before 3:30 p.m. Sunday for a man threatening people sent officers to the Butler Coin-Op Laundromat on the 300 block of Pillow Street, authorities said.

Officers spoke to a man, who told them that Landolfi had been yelling at passersby, police said, and using abusive language toward customers.

The man recounted that when he asked Landolfi to stop, the defendant allegedly pulled a knife and threatened to kill him.

“Landolfi held the knife near (the victim's) neck and chest,” according to charging documents, “until (the victim) backed away and retreated.”

Police said they found the suspect in the building. He allegedly admitted to having a knife, which officers seized from him. Police suspected he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

District Judge Bill O'Donnell arraigned Landolfi on charges of terroristic threats, simple assault, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness. His preliminary hearing was not immediately scheduled.

Online court records did not list an attorney for him.
