Curdo

Peter J. Curdo, 83, of Lawsonham Road, Rimersburg, formerly of Cris-well in the Karns City R.D. 2 area, died at 11:35 a.m. Wed-nesday at Butler Hospital after a period of failing health.

Born Feb. 16, 1924, in West Winfield, Armstrong County, he was the son of Tony Curdo and Clara Lokar Curdo Bonozich.

He served with the Army 101st Infantry Regiment during World War IIand was wounded in action in Northern France. He received the Purple Heart, the American Campaign Medal and the Victory Medal. After being wounded, he was hospitalized during WWII with Mickey Rooney, while Rooney was being treated for frozen feet.

Mr. Curdo retired in 1987 from the wax packing department at the Witco Corp. in Petrolia.

He was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Bradys Bend. He also belonged to the American Legion Kaylor Post 488 of Bradys Bend.

His married Katherine Louise "Katie" Zemba, June 25, 1949, at the Holy Trinity Church in East Vandergrift. She died Dec. 1, 2001.

He then married Patricia A. Serbey Burns, Oct. 25, 2003, at the St. Patrick Church, Bradys Bend. She survives along with two daughters, Mary Ann Curdo of Karns City and Kathy Lynn Curdo Vaughn and her husband, William, of Aliquippa; a son, Peter Richard Curdo and his wife, Sarah, of Bruin; three grandchildren, twins Cory and Kara Vaughn of Aliquippa, and Grant Edward Curdo of Bruin; a brother, Leo J. Curdo and his wife, Gaye, of Port Royal; and several nieces and nephews.

He also is survived by three stepdaughters and their husbands, Kimberly and David Rupp of Rimersburg, Kathryn and Gary Booth of Sligo and Karen and Dana Davis of Rimersburg; and 10 step-grandchildren, Shane, Spencer, Sydney, Sutton, Scott, Penny, Devin, Colton, Austin and Nash.

In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Patrick Stephen Curdo on Oct. 12, 1965; a sister, Ann Kranjakovich in 2006, and an infant brother.

<B>CURDO </B>— Friends of Peter J. Curdo, who died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the <B>Richard D. Hillis Funeral Home</B>, 102 Arygle St., Petrolia. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the St. Patrick Church, Bradys Bend, with the Rev. Joseph Bonafed officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Mary Cemetery, Bradys Bend.Full military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by members of the American Legion Kaylor Post 488 of Bradys Bend.
