Campaign brings in $1.3M

Push to add $250,000 continues to June 30

BUTLER TWP — The United Way of Butler County came close to its 2010 campaign goal of $1.4 million.

The campaign reached $1.3 million, according to Vic Rozic, campaign chairman and Health, Safety and Environmental manager for Calumet-Penreco in Karns City, who spoke to more than 200 attendees of the United Way of Butler County annual breakfast meeting Wednesday at Butler County Community College's Founders Hall.

Another $250,000 is the goal of a quick campaign that began about three weeks ago to help cover service costs for the nonprofit organization.

That short campaign continues to June 30.

Leslie Osche, United Way executive director, said this year was the first United Way campaign with Westinghouse Electric, which last year opened its headquarters in Cranberry Township.

Westinghouse raised more than $237,000 in corporate and employee contributions to the county organization.

Because Westinghouse's headquarters is in the county, Osche and her staff also processed Westinghouse's nationwide contributions to United Way with help from software made for this service that the agency bought from Allegheny County when Westinghouse relocated to Butler County.

That meant United Way collected $902,000 nationwide for Westinghouse throughout its 30 sites in 14 states and Washington, D.C.

Campaign awards

Rozic gave out awards to businesses and organizations based on their campaign giving on three levels:

• Gold Awards, which is for $250 or more per employee — Hefren Tillotson, Murrin Taylor Flach Gallagher & May law firm, United Way of Butler County, UPS and Wells Fargo.

• Silver Awards, $100 or more per employee — Bank of America, Butler Eagle, Constellation Energy, C.W. Howard Insurance Agency, FedEx, First Energy, Lifesteps, MSA and Westinghouse

• Bronze Awards, $50 or more per employee — AGR International, Allegheny Energy, BASF, Calumet-Penreco, C.U.E., Indspec, Mental Health Association, Nationwide Insurance and NexTier Bank.

The following businesses and organizations were recognized for having more than 50 percent of their staffs make contributions to the United Way:
