HARRISVILLE — Harrisville Community Band's annual fall concert will take place at 7 p.m. Nov. 14 at Harrisville Fire Hall on East Mercer Street.
The band is composed of amateur musicians ages from teens to retirees. The group is directed by Becky Sopher, an elementary music teacher in the Slippery Rock School District.
Selections for the concert will include "National Emblem March," "Rockin' Halloween," "Hansel and Gretel Overture" and "Crown Him with Many Crowns."
Admission is free. Refreshments will be available.
SLIPPERY ROCK — Nanette Kaplan Solomon, Slippery Rock University professor of music, will present a "Carnival" of solo piano works at 4 p.m. Nov. 16.The free concert will feature 19th- and 20th-century works inspired by carnivals, masked balls and other colorful events.
PITTSBURGH — The Heinz History Center's new exhibit, "Pittsburgh: A Tradition of Innovation," traces Western Pennsylvania's imprint on the United States and the world. The exhibit opens Saturday.From the Meadowcroft Rockshelter in Avella, Pa., 16,000 years ago to the roads, planes and houses of today, the long-term exhibition features the stories of people.The Senator John Heinz History Center, 1212 Smallman St., is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
