Cookson

Martha M. Brodmerkel Cookson, 97, of Cranberry Township passed away Sunday morning at her home.

Mrs. Cookson was born Oct. 8, 1911, in Glenshaw. She was the daughter of the late John and Martha Sandman Brodmerkel.

She was married to the late Alfred T. Cookson, who passed away July 30, 1968.

Mrs. Cookson retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 26 years.

She was active in the Glenshaw Valley Presbyterian Church and was a Sunday school teacher, choir member and pianist until her move to Cranberry Township in 1935. Mrs. Cookson then joined the Plains Presbyterian Church and joined the choir and also was a Sunday school teacher. Her favorite part was playing the piano and the organ for 65 years. She was a member of the A.A.R.P. and the Cranberry Senior Group, and she was a Missionary Society quilter for 37 years.

Surviving are a stepson, Mr. Arnold (Joan) Cookson of Arnold, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Richard (Beverly) Magill of Cranberry Township; six grandchildren, Mr. Dennis (Nancy) Cookson of California, Mr. Doug (Wendy) Cookson of California, Ms. Bonnie Ekholm of Oregon, Mr. Aaron Magill of Pittsburgh, Mr. Thomas (Kim) Magill of Ellwood City, and Mrs. Jeffery (Traci) Kuntz Cranberry Township; 11 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

<B>COOKSON</B> — Family and friends of Martha M. Brodmerkel Cookson, who died Sunday, Aug. 2, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>A. Carl Kinsey-Ronald N. Volz Funeral Home</B>, 328 W. Main St., Evans City. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Plains Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Edwin Heller officiating. Friends are asked to meet at the church.
