Schoonover

James R. Schoonover, 85, of Tarentum, Frazer Township, died Saturday in the Alle-Kiski Medical Center, Allegheny Valley Hospital, Harrison Township.

Born June 27, 1924, in Coshocton, Ohio, he was a son of the late Russell and Nellie (Smith) Schoonover.

He had been a resident of the Tarentum area since 1952 and was a member of Bull Creek Presbyterian Church.

Prior to his retirement in 1986, he was employed as an electrician by PPG, Creighton, where he worked for 44½ years.

He was a World War II veteran, having served in the Navy, and was awarded the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one star and the World War II Victory Medal.

He enjoyed camping, boating and dinner with family and friends, especially with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Dorothy M. (Markland) Schoonover, who he married July 24, 1948; a son, James E. (Jean) Schoonover of Boyers; a daughter, Susan (Richard) Holsing, of Frazer Township; grandchildren, Kara (Tim) Ricci, Jessy and Jake Schoonover, Angie (Greg) Jablonski, Joe (Heather) Conrad and Steve (Kim) Conrad; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Logan and Renee Ricci, Joshua, Justin and Johnathan Jablonski, Cody and Taylor Conrad and Levi Conrad; a brother, Edgar (Ruth) Schoonover of Ormond Beach, Fla.; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty Jane and William Spieler of Penn Hills; a sister-in-law, Eleanor Eberly of Pittsburgh; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Schoonover, who died Saturday, July 25, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the <B>DUSTER FUNERAL HOME</B>, 10th Avenue at Corbet Street, Tarentum, 724-224-1526. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. W. James Legge, his pastor, officiating.
