The only team standing in the way of Mars claiming its first outright conference title in at least 30 years is Mohawk, which heads to the Mars Athletic Complex for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

A loss would mean the Planets would have to share the Tri-County North Conference title with Riverside, which has completed its conference schedule.

The Warriors (4-4, 3-4) won their first three games of the season, which were conference meetings with Cornell, Union-New Castle and Neshannock, but have dropped four of their last five, including a 28-22 setback to Shenango last week.

But with the Planets (7-1, 7-0) so close to a conference title, and the high seed in the WPIAL playoffs that would come with it, coach Scott Heinauer is taking nothing for granted.

"Our game with Mohawk is always close," he said. "(Coach) Jason Long does a great job up there and he runs a lot of multiple sets on offense.

"They've just been plagued by turnovers and that's deflated their sails a bit."

The Warriors committed four turnovers in last week's loss.

Mars fullback Billy Bair, the WPIAL's newest member of the 4,000 rushing yards club, had his lowest single game total in the last 10 games (155 yards) in last Saturday's 35-28 win at Summit Academy.

Junior quarterback John Brake has completed 23 of 53 passes for 421 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions.

But Planets wide receivers and tight ends have accounted for just five catches for 137 yards and no touchdowns.

"We're not concerned with our passing game," Heinauer said. "We're a team that likes to run the football. Teams have put a lot of guys in the box, but the bottom line is we've been able to move the ball."

Mars won last year's meeting, 21-8.
