SLIPPERY ROCK— Except for its final drives of each half, the Slippery Rock High football team was five for five.

Five drives and five touchdowns.

The Rockets added an interception for a touchdown and cruised to a 42-8 victory over Erie Central Tech Friday.

The Rockets ran for 213 yards on 30 carries — a crisp 7 yards per carry — as Ryan Ferguson and J.R. Thompson led the barrage with two touchdowns each.

Jonathan Powell returned an interception 35 yards for a score. Two drives later, Powell tossed an 18-yard score to Zack Ejzak.

"It was a good start to Senior Night," Rockets coach Clyde Conti said.

The Falcons' Kaylon Mims ran for 123 yards on 23 carries. Late in the game, he bulled in from 5 yards out, then added a two-point run to make it 42-8.

Conti said he was impressed with the Falcons' speed and size, but nothing much went right for Central, as it threw for only 42 yards on 10 attempts. The Falcons defense forced only four third-down situations on the five scoring drives. They also didn't force fourth downs or turnovers.

On three of the critical third downs, the Rockets' Ryan Ferguson ran for the first down, including one touchdown. Powell rambled 38 yards on the other

"The Rockets came to play tonight," said Falcons coach Jason Beer. "We made adjustments at the half that slowed them down, but we couldn't overcome the flat first half."

The Rockets' hardest scoring drive of the night was the last one. A Derrick Orloski 39-yard punt return, with a Central unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, set Slippery Rock up with first-and-goal at the 6.

After a procedure penalty and a 7-yard loss on a screen pass, the Rockets faced third and goal from the 18.

Powell, who was five-for-five for 89 yards, calmly tossed the 18-yard scoring strike to Ejzak.

Backup Ayron Gallagher threw one pass for 26 yards and ran five times for 33 yards. All six Rockets passes in the game went to Ejzak.

Still alive for a playoff bid, Slippery Rock travels to Warren next week.
