Butler dominates New Castle for 2nd win

Dana Gillis and Megan Shingleton had two hits apiece and Amy Ferrari had a double and two RBI as the Butler softball team routed New Castle 13-3 in a five-inning game Wednesday.

The Tornado (2-10) also benefited from 13 walks from New Castle starter Sara Chill and six errors from the Red Hurricanes' defense.

Butler's Kelly Reges pitched a complete-game two-hitter with five strikeouts and no walks.

In other action:

Jackie Mangola smacked a two-run home run and a single, and Julie Marlowe had a double, a single and two RBI as Seneca Valley downed Ellwood City 5-2.

Monica Glomb struck out six and Ashley Phelps collected two singles, but Mars fell to Pine-Richland 3-1.

Knoch's Eric Christensen had a two-run double, but Highlands used a seven-run sixth inning to defeat the Knights 7-2.The Hampton-Mars game was tied at 5 entering the bottom of the seventh inning when play was suspended. The host Planets had a runner at first with one out. The game will be completed before the start of the May 11 matchup at Hampton.The Meadville-Grove City game was stopped after four innings due to inclement weather. Ryan Walker had 15 points and 15 assists and Ricky Gonzalez had 10 kills and six aces to lead Butler to a 25-15, 25-6, 25-14 victory over Summit Academy Wednesday.The Tornado junior varsity also won 21-25, 25-13, 15-9.Butler (7-1, 4-1) plays at Bethel Park today.

Matt McCarrier scored three goals and Zach Carben had a goal and three assists, but Butler fell to Kiski Area in overtime 7-6.Zach Reiser added two goals for the Tornado (0-9), while Derek Stevens had one assist. Dan McPherson tallied 12 saves in goal in defeat.
