Historical marker has reappeared
One mystery has replaced another regarding the historical marker at the corner of Route 228 and Franklin Road in Cranberry Township.
The marker is back home after a several-months absence, and the standards to which it has been reattached have been painted blue to match the color of the metal plaque.
"We're very appreciate of its reappearance," said Beverly Magill of the Cranberry Township Historical Society, the group that raised $3,000 to have the marker made and placed to commemorate the Venango Trail. The group's insurance did not cover the loss.
Magill noticed the heavy bronze plaque back in its location on Aug. 19 when she drove by the site.
However, when it was removed, and when and why it was replaced and by whom remains unknown.

The
Cranberry District of the Muscular Dystrophy Association
recently "arrested" community leaders in Cranberry Township and Zelienople to raise money for the association.
For the lockup, people volunteered one hour to be picked up and taken to "jail" by limousine or police car, where they had one hour to call family, friends and business associates to raise money and be released.
They raised $5,500 to send youths to MDA summer camp, besting the goal of $4,500.
This year's lockup was at the Quaker Steak & Lube restaurant in Cranberry and at the Kaufman House in Zelienople.
