Carved in Ice festival Febl 20 in Diamond ParkThe Butler A.M. Rotary will host the Butler Carved in Ice festival Feb. 20 in Diamond Park.The festival will feature numerous ice sculptures as well as a chili cook-off with restaurants represented.Smaller one-block sculptures will be carved in advance and placed in Diamond Park the previous day. The big sculptures will be carved on Saturday, and different sculptures are planned, including a Model-T Ford, a Bantam Jeep and a tractor-trailer.There also will be vendors and music and possibly a skating rink.The event is free to attend. It will cost $5 for the chili samples.Temperatures above freezing should not pose a problem, organizers say.

Art center plans student showsButler County school students will have their art shown at the Butler Art Center.Elementary school students in grades one through six will display their work March 2 to 12 with a reception March 4.Middle and high school students will have their work shown March 16 to 26 with a reception March 18.All Butler County students are eligible to enter the elementary and middle/high school shows including home school students.Students can enter on their own if their teachers or schools do not participate.Call 724-283-6922 or visit butlerartcenter.org.

Westminster hosts children’s playNEW WILMINGTON — Westminster College’s Celebrity Series for Kids presents “Room on the Broom” at 6:30 p.m. March 3 in Orr Auditorium.Produced by Tall Stories Theater Company, the musical stage adaptation of the book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler takes audiences on the adventures of a witch, her cat, a dragon, and a few friendly animals.The show is recommended for children ages 3 to 8.Tickets are $12 and available by visiting www.westminster.edu/celebrity or calling 724-946-7354.

Gospel concert planned at SRU March 18Slippery Rock Southern Gospel Concerts presents the McKameys of Clinton, Tenn., and Jason Reumell performing at 7 p.m. March 18 in the Science and Technology Building at Slippery Rock University.Admission is $10; children 12 and younger will be admitted free.
