ZELIENOPLE — Gregg Semel, borough council member and chairman for the community public library, will serve a second term as the latter.

Borough council voted Monday evening to keep Semel, citing a positive year for the library.

“They (library) enjoy you being on there and all the work you do,” council member Marietta Reeb said to Semel.

Semel said being the library chairman has been “fulfilling.”

“Part of my goal is to continue to develop other leadership on the (library) board,” he said.

The library had a successful year after facing financial dire straits.

In January however, local resident Randall Hart donated $7,000 to eliminate the library’s financial deficit.

Dr. Mark Marion, a local dentist, also started participating in Smiles For Life to help fund the library.

“The library was having trouble and I think you’ve done a lot to improve their business position in the community,” council President Allen Bayer said to Semel.

Semel received more good news Monday evening as council voted to donate about $772 to reimburse the library for a water leak that occurred earlier this year.

“We appreciate the gesture,” Semel said.
