BUTLER TWP — A woman suffered a broken nose and other injuries after a vehicle collided with her bicycle on Litman Road earlier this week.

Laura Winner, 26, of Butler Township was on her way to work at the Days Inn, 139 Pittsburgh Road, Tuesday morning when a white Kia Sportage, driven by Bruce Groom, attempted to make a turn along Litman Road, striking Winner’s bike.

“There was no way for her to stop in time,” the woman’s husband, Denny Winner, said, even with new brakes he says he recently installed.

Winner was transported to Butler Memorial Hospital, where she was treated for a broken nose and needed 16 stitches following the accident, according to her husband. Later in the week, she returned to the hospital with breathing problems because of the injuries, he continued.

Winner didn’t make it to work Tuesday, and she won’t be returning until Monday, but her transportation — the bike — Winner said, is unusable.

At the scene, Sgt. Steve Hensel of the Butler Township Police said it seemed as if the woman, bike, or something else hit the Kia’s windshield, as the glass was shattered.

Denny Winner said it was his wife’s face.

The accident happened outside the Butler Area Sewer Authority, 100 Litman Road, where Groom works. Groom said he was late for work because of a doctor’s appointment.
