Alleged card skimmers headed toward trial

Two men accused of using a card skimmer at a Butler Township gas station waived their preliminary hearings Thursday.

Brought from Allegheny County Jail, Raul-Mihai Cojucaru, 40, and Constatin Colceag, 41, both from the U.K., appeared before District Judge Kevin O’Donnell.

They are charged with felony counts of device fraud and criminal conspiracy, after police said they tied the pair to a card-skimming device found at the Sam’s Club gas station in Butler Township.

The pair have bonds of $50,000 each in the Butler County case against them, but they also have cases filed Allegheny and Washington counties. Bond in one of those cases was set at $500,000 each.

Despite lacking an attorney, the pair waived their hearings, advancing the case to the Butler County Common Pleas Court.

The pair next will be scheduled to appear for formal arraignment in county court. A date was not immediately available Thursday.
