Jennings Environmental Education Center, Route 528, Brady Township, will host “Intro to Archery” 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 18. Those 12 or older can participate in the course that will include range safety rules, equipment orientation, steps involved in shooting and lots of practice. Moraine State Park, Muddy Creek Township, will have a kayaking trip to observe waterfowl from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday from the Pleasant Valley launch on the South Shore. Register by calling the park office at 724- 368-8811. A Muddy Creek Oil Field Living History exhibit is planned for 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 10 at the Park Road Prospect Exit.

Bartramian Audubon Society is offering birding field trips to Lake Arthur/Moraine-McConnells Mill (call 724-794-2434) starting at 8 a.m. Sept. 10 and to Elk County (call 724-496-4856) on Oct. 8. These field trips are free, but participation is limited.

REGION

McConnells Mill State Park, Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County off Route 422, will host “Salamander Safari” on Saturday and “Crayfishing” on Sunday, both from 4 to 5:30 p.m. departing from the Hells Hollow Trail parking lot. A Volunteer Work Day is planned for 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 10; call the park office at 724-368-8811 to register. The covered bridge over Slippery Rock Creek is closed for renovations. The Heritage Festival is Sept. 24 and 25.

A star party sponsored by the Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh is to begin at 7:35 p.m. Sept. 10, weather permitting, at the Nicholas E. Wagman Observatory in Deer Lakes Regional Park near Russellton. Call 724-224-2510.
