An accidental fire destroyed a pickup truck rigged with a snow plow on Sunset Drive in Center Township about 5:25 a.m. Monday. The driver managed to get out uninjured. Unionville volunteer firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze.

CENTER TWP — No one was injured Monday morning when a pickup truck equipped with a snow plow caught fire on Sunset Drive, authorities said.

The Unionville Volunteer Fire Department was called out about 5:25 a.m. for a pickup on fire near the Future POS business.

“It was pretty much fully involved (in fire),” Nathan Wulff, Unionville VFD chief, said of the truck.

The driver was out of the vehicle when crews got there. Firefighters used compressed air foam to extinguish the blaze within minutes of arriving.

The vehicle, a late 1990s or early 2000s model, appeared to be totaled. It was later towed away.

Authorities believed the driver was working as a snow-removal contractor and plowing driveways when the fire started in the engine compartment. The blaze spread to the cab before firefighters were able to put it out.

Butler Ambulance Service assisted at the scene. The Oneida Valley Volunteer Fire Department was initially called but was subsequently cancelled after Unionville crews arrived.

Crews were back at their station shortly before 6:30 a.m.
