Fundraiser adds to its total
CRANBERRY TWP — The Cranberry Township Community Chest brought in nearly $1,400 this past week for its 2015 Project of the Year.
The project is a $500,000 fundraising effort to recruit and retain more volunteer firefighters in Butler County. The Community Chest has raised $352,007 since July.
At least 18 scholarships at the Butler County Community College will be established with the money. Anyone who pledges at least two years of service to a fire department will be eligible for a scholarship.
In addition, the Community Chest will buy two emergency trailers at a total cost of $150,000 that can be used by all of the departments in the county for recruitment and training.
Bruce Mazzoni, treasurer of the Community Chest, said he and other volunteers are pleased that donations continue for the project.
However, the Community Chest is still looking for employees who could partner with their employers to give to the project.
The Community Chest already has some “project ambassadors,” Mazzoni said, but it could always use more.
Ambassadors can be companies that partner with the Community Chest by donating money or they can be residents who get businesses to donate.
Mazzoni said, “Obviously having an employee take the time to reach out to their management has been a huge help and we appreciate the support.”
The most recent round of gifts includes $250 donations from Baglier Buick GMC/Baglier Mazda and from MHF Inc.; $125 gifts from Jamie and Judy Shearer and Ann and Dennis Baglier; $100 from John and Debbie Skorupan, Jim and Karen Larrimer, Stephen R. Green and NexTier Bank; $50 from James and Natalie Carroll, Kathryn M. Uthman, Steven and Virginia Smoke and Tim Kelly; $25 from Patrick and Amanda Furey and $20 from Frances and John Woodcook.
