Bauer

Mary Margaret “Pep” Pepper Bauer, 83, of Butler went to be with the Lord and the Blessed Mary at 1:35 a.m. Wednesday. She passed away suddenly at Christiana Hospital in Newark, Del.

She was born May 22, 1928, in Pittsburgh to the late Robert Pepper and Mary E. (Taylor) Pepper.

Mary devoted her life to her husband, children and grandchildren.

She was a member of the St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church in Center Township.

Mary graduated from the all-girl Catholic high school, the Cathedral, in Pittsburgh.

She was a member of the Cana Club for 20 years and the Catholic Daughters of America, including traveling with the C.D. of A. Drum and Bugle Corps in the 1970s as a corps mom.

Mary also was a member of the Associated Artists of Butler County, including being a past president, and was a member of the 500 card club for 45 years until her death.

She was completely self-taught in oil painting and moved on to water color painting, which she loved the most, and won many awards over the years.

Mary also enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, playing 500 with her best friends, and watching figure skating once she could no longer skate herself. Most important in her life was a very special devotion to God and the Blessed Mary.

She was a kind, gentle and holy woman who will be missed by many.

Mary was adored by her six children and their families, John E. Bauer and Jill Shorak of Industry, Mary Beth Bauer of Butler, Patricia A. Dittman and Glenn of Butler, Kenneth P. Bauer and Terri of Coppell, Texas, Robert J. Bauer and Nancy of Middletown, Del., and Kathleen S. Bauer-Pittman of Butler; 12 grandchildren, Carrie, Joe, Tom, Rene, Mike, Joshua, Erik, Audrey, Christine, Laura, Adam and Kayla; six great-grandchildren, Daniel, Dawson, Rylan, Aisley, Lindsey and Joey; three brothers, Robert Pepper, Edward Pepper and John Pepper, all of California; and two sisters, Audrey Howard and Rita Breyer, both of California. A number of stepbrothers and stepsisters and several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 44 years, Donald J. Bauer, who she married May 14, 1952, and who passed away Nov. 4, 1996; and by one brother, Thomas Pepper.

Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, 1660 N. Main St. Ext., Butler, with the Rev. Father James Salzberg of St. Andrew church officiating. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Butler.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Histiocytosis Association, 332 N.
