Shields

Louis Emory Shields passed on to heaven at 3:40 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007.

He was born on Feb. 17, 1921, to Floy Jane Violet Kinter Shields and Claude Devere Shields in Butler.

In his young life he enjoyed hunting, fishing and roller-skating.

He did well in school and played football with a Butler team the "RAMS;" his nickname was "Kelly."

Louis was baptized at the North Street Christian Church.

Lou joined the United States Marine Corp on the 16th of July, 1942. He served in the Pacific Theater until the end of WW II when he was honorably discharged.

He met Jean Elizabeth French on a base in Oklahoma, as she was also a U.S. Marine. Jean hailed from Detroit, Mich. They were married on Jan. 19, 1946, and made their home in Prospect.

Lou worked at Armco Steel in Butler for many years.

When retired, he kept busy hunting, fishing, woodcarving and caring for his home and family.

Mr. Shields is survived by his wife, Jean Shields; his son, Gary Louis Shields; two daughters, Robin Shields Matthews, and Dawn Shields Cratty and her husband, Gordon Cratty; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Ella Miller and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Shields was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Floy Shields, and by his sister, Marian Shields Prigg.
