Cashier pays debt with merchandise
WASHINGTON TWP — A cashier at the Trader Horn on Route 38 allegedly undercharged two women at the store as a way to pay off personal debts.
State police in Butler said Amanda M. Thompson, 26, of Parker, who was a cashier at the store in July 2013, conspired with Debra Ealy, 55, and Brittany Everetts, 25, both also of Parker, to undercharge them for purchases to repay a debt she owed.
Charges were filed Tuesday against the three women.
Police said Ealy went through Thompson’s register on July 20 that year with seven items, but was only charged for four of them.
Two days later Everetts took four items through Thompson’s register, but was only charged for one item valued at $1.69. Thompson accepted the unknown amount of coins Everetts used to pay for the item and handed her $40 in cash back.
Thompson admitted to police she conspired with Ealy and Everetts to steal from the store to pay back debts. She told police it was the idea of Ealy and Everetts and that she felt threatened.
Thompson and Everetts are charged with theft by unlawful taking, criminal conspiracy and retail theft, while Ealy is charged with retail theft and criminal conspiracy.
