Festivals round out busy summer

Despite cooler evenings, summer is not over, at least not yet. It doesn’t end until Sept. 22.

What makes Butler County so special area all of the activities that help people enjoy what the county has to offer, from musical entertainment to food vendors featured at several events from summer’s beginning, through fair and farm show season until the end-of-summer festivals.

And these events attract many visitors from all over the region. There are enough to fill almost every busy weekend.

To round out the season, there are two end-of-summer festivals worth checking out.

Coming up are Butler Community Days (replacing what people have come to know as the Butler Fall Fest) during two weekends: from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Park and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 18 at Father Marinaro Park.

In addition to the vendors and music at Butler Community Days, those participating on Saturday can view a car cruise with raffle prizes for those who drive in a show car.

On Sept. 18, those comfortable with their skills can participate in a “Skate Jam” competition within the park for cash prizes.

“I love any event that highlights the people of the city and the community,” said Don Shearer, president of the Butler Fall Festival board, “The Community Days are a different way of highlighting the city and its parks.”

The Eagle plans to have information in Thursday’s edition about Butler Community Days.

The following Wednesday, the Eagle plans to feature information on Slippery Rock’s VillageFest on South Main Street and Gateway Park, Slippery Rock.

After the pandemic closed the event last year, VillageFest returns from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 18.

The event includes live music, food vendors, carnival games and more.

The festival hosts more than 100 vendors, local businesses and entertainment groups.

So enjoy the summer while it still lasts, support your community and have fun while doing it.
