2nd accident happens while crews respond
JACKSON TWP — Emergency crews responding to an accident with entrapment Monday morning on Interstate 79 witnessed a second accident 30 minutes later.
The first wreck occurred at 11:45 a.m. at mile 87 north on I-79. According to Justin Hart, Harmony Fire District assistant chief, the vehicle was traveling south and crossed over, eventually coming to rest in the northbound lanes.
“Luckily, they didn't hit anybody else,” Hart said.
A woman riding in the rear of the vehicle needed to be extracted, with crews working to do so for several minutes.
Hart said as they were pulling the woman from the vehicle, a second accident occurred at about 12:18 p.m. where traffic was blocked by fire vehicles. He said it was a chain-reaction accident involving three vehicles.
The woman from the first accident as well as two individuals from the second accident were transported. Hart said none of the injuries appeared to be serious.
