Symphony concert, ice cream are free
BUTLER TWP — The Pittsburgh Philharmonic’s free performance Aug. 13 at Butler County Community College’s Succop Theater will include free ice cream and a first glimpse of an art exhibit featuring the works of a Latrobe resident.
The 50-member symphony orchestra will begin its pops and classical concert at 2 p.m. in the first event of the theater’s fall performing artists series.
Visitors will be treated to a viewing of 35 oil paintings in the Mary Hulton Phillips Art Gallery, as part of opening night for an exhibit by Doreen Currie, a Latrobe resident who studied under BC3 instructor David Ludwick in 2005 and 2006. That exhibit will run through Sept. 29, and features paintings inspired by pastoral scenes from Western Pennsylvania.
In addition to the art and music, four Greater’s Ice Cream flavors will be available after the performance: raspberry chocolate chip, mint chip, cookies and cream and chocolate.
The college expects a crowd of at least 300 people to attend the Philharmonic’s concert, which is sponsored by Thompson-Miller Funeral Home in Butler.
