Garnet Montgomery
Garnet T. Montgomery, 98, of Cabot, formerly of Kittanning, passed away Thursday at Concordia Lutheran Ministries after a long life filled with friends, family and memories.
She was born Sept. 22, 1912, in Center Hill, Armstrong County, the daughter of Harvey and Emma (Montgomery) Toy.
Mrs. Montgomery was a lifelong resident of the Kittanning area.
She attended St. John's Lutheran Church of Kittanning, where she was a member of the Women's Association.
She previously was employed by the former Kittanning Leather Shop and the Hutchinson Jewelry Store.
Garnet enjoyed several hobbies throughout her life. She was a talented quilter and liked hooking rugs. Another favorite activity was card games, and her game of choice was canasta.
Garnet was a kind woman with a loving heart who especially enjoyed the company of her family and friends.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Lee Montgomery and his wife, Judy, of Butler; her grandchildren, David L. Montgomery and his wife, Tanya, Ann M. Montgomery, Jennifer G. Montgomery, Amy L. Hanford and her husband, David, Jeremy D. Hanford, Lauren D. Hanford and Carissa D. Hanford; a great-granddaughter, Kimberly Montgomery; a step-great-grandson, Nic Landen and his wife, Emily; and a great-great-granddaughter, Claire Landen.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur C. Montgomery, who she married Dec. 15, 1932, and shared nearly 64 beautiful years of marriage; a great-grandson, Derrick D. Hanford; two brothers, Everett and Harry Toy; and six sisters, Frances Bowser, Stella Campbell, Sadie Bowser, Oda Claypoole, Sula Hall and Margaret Crissman.
Garnet was the last surviving member of the Toy family. Her legacy will be carried on by her son and grandchildren.
<B>MONTGOMERY </B>— Friends of Garnet T. Montgomery, who died Thursday, June 16, 2011, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at <B>Bauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services</B>, 515 N. McKean St., Kittanning. Additional visitation will be Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Arlyn H. Eisenbrandt officiating.
