Percy

Arthur Wade Percy Jr., 82, of Weckerly Road died at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Concordia Lutheran Care, Cabot.

Born April 11, 1926, in Butler, he was a son of Arthur W. Sr. and Georgia Hutzley Percy.

He had been a foreman in the forge locomotive and machine shop at Armco for 39 years, retiring in April 1986.

Mr. Percy was a member of the Nixon United Methodist Church. He served 36 years on the church's board, was a choir member and was president of the United Methodist Men's Group.

A 1944 graduate of Penn Township High School, he was a sergeant in the Army during World War II. He served in the Philippines and Japan from 1944 to 1946.

Mr. Percy was a member of the Armco Management Club. He was a life member of the Tanglewood Senior Center and the VFW Post 249 and past master of the Victory Lodge 694 F&AM. He formerly sang with the Musical Theatre Singers and the Bob McGinnis Singers.

He also was a former gunsmith, hunter and furniture maker.

He was a Penn Township supervisor for 18 years, was on the township zoning and hearing board, was a deputy sheriff, was president of the Penn Township Volunteer Fire Company in 1979 and was vice president of the Penn Township Ambulance Service and EMT for years.

He received the Silver Beaver Award in scouting and served as district chairman and district commissioner. He was active in Penn Township Troop 34 from 1976 to 1979.

Surviving are his wife, Marion Kirkwood Percy, whom he married May 10, 1952; five sons, James Percy and his wife, Cara, of Ohio, Jon Percy and Sheila Ruble of Kansas, Mark Percy and his wife, Carole, of Butler, Thomas Percy of California, and Roger Percy and his wife, Lisa, of Butler; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley and her husband, Fred Cimino, and Nancy Burkher, all of California; three sisters-in-law, Carol Sawford of Butler, Jean Percy of New Kensington and Velora Percy of Las Vegas; a brother-in-law and his wife, Paul and Janet Kirkwood of Butler; and by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl and George Farrell, and a sister Patricia.

North St. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Nixon United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bruce Merritt, church pastor, and the Rev. Keith Dunn, former church pastor, officiating.
