ROSS TWP — Even when Olivia Bresnahan has a quiet game, she puts up loud numbers.

Reticent off the court, Bresnahan speaks in a soft, humble voice.

Above all else, the senior guard on the Butler girls basketball team talks about winning.

"I'm looking for that state ring," she said.

Bresnahan, who shrugs off her numbers with an aw-shucks attitude and lauds her teammates at every turn, had one of those sneaky games for the Golden Tornado Thursday night.

In a 63-36 road section win over North Hills, Bresnahan didn't shoot particularly well from the field or the foul line, but she found a way to spark Butler with 21 points and a handful of assists, rebounds and steals.

"Liv is one of those players who is always going to make a difference for you. She's just that good," said Butler coach Dorothea Epps. "Even if she is struggling offensively, you look up and she has 20 points and you don't know how."

Bresnahan, who will play at Florida State next year, does it with good old-fashioned skill.

She handled the ball at point guard for portions of the win against North Hills. She also posted up on the block.

When she couldn't find a way to score, she found open teammates.

Casie Cygan was open a lot, scoring 21 points for Butler on 9-of-11 shooting.

With Bresnahan and Cygan providing scoring punch, Butler opponents are in a tough predicament.

North Hills (5-9, 2-5) found that out first hand.

"It's great to have two people who can score like that inside and out," Epps said.

Butler (9-5, 7-0) wasted little time jumping on the Indians.

The Golden Tornado scored the first seven points of the game. The lead swelled to 12 by the end of the first quarter and by 18 at the half.

The biggest Butler lead was 30 with two minutes remaining in the game.

Stats are nice, Bresnahan said, but the matter little in the long run.

"Whatever I come out with is cool with me as long as we get the W," she said.

"Sometimes I think she is too unselfish," Epps said. "That's just her nature, and I really don't want to take that away from her. She's just about winning."

Winning is something Butler has been doing a lot of lately, particularly in section play.

Following a losing streak during a holiday trip to Florida, the Golden Tornado have rolled off seven straight section wins.

Butler has won 19 section games in a row, dating back to the 2007-08 season, and 30 of the last 31.

"It's a long streak in this section that is predicated on playing defense," Epps said.
