Moon sets on Seneca setters
The WPIAL title is now out of reach, but the Seneca Valley girls volleyball team still has something to shoot for.
The Raiders got 16 kills from Justine Carrow and 47 assists from Lauren Balmert, but they lost a grueling five-game match to Moon 19-25, 25-20, 24-26, 25-19, 13-15 in the WPIAL Class AAA semifinals at North Hills HighSchool Thursday night.
"When a team plays as well as we played, you can't say anything bad," said Seneca Valley coach Karen Martini.
The Raiders will play either NorthAllegheny or Penn-Trafford at 11 a.m. Saturday at Franklin Regional in the consolation match.
The winner goes to the PIAA tournament while the loser sees its season end.
"I just told the girls this is sad for us," Martini said. "Maybe the WPIAL championship is out of our hands, but the state title isn't. Anyone can battle back and win at state."
Megan Franz had 13 kills and Jen Boyd had 12 kills for Seneca Valley (11-8).
