Fairview bounces Freeport
The Freeport girls soccer team found itself going toe to toe with District 10 champion Fairview on Tuesday.
Unfortunately, the Tigers used a finishing kick to pull away in a 6-3 victory over the Yellowjackets in PIAA Class AA first-round action at Harborcreek High School.
Freeport (17-3) grabbed a 1-0 lead about two minutes into the game on a goal by Kirsten Almquist.
The score held up until late in the half when Fairview (21-1-1) scored the equalizer, then added another goal just before halftime for a 2-1 lead.
Kayla Eckman tied the game for Freeport in the first two minutes of the second half before the Tigers countered with the go-ahead goal.
Courtney Boroski knotted the game at three, but it was all Tigers the rest of the way, including a pair of breakaway goals late in the contest.
"It was a very quick, fast-paced game," said Freeport coach Autum Godot. "It was back and forth until the very end. It could have gone either way.
"I'm not disappointed in the season. We were the section champions for the first time in school history. We'll learn from this."
