Cathy Messmer of Seneca Valley finds her way blocked by a pair of Shaler defenders Wednesday in the Raiders' 36-25 loss.

Steve Cress scored 29 points — half of Mars' point total — as the Planets took one step closer to a playoff spot with a 58-44 boys basketball win over Indiana Wednesday night.

Cress had nine of his points during a fourth-quarter romp that saw Mars (9-13 overall, 5-6 in the conference) pull away from Indiana (5-18, 1-10).

Mars is a half-game behind Valley, which has to play Highlands and Knoch on back-to-back nights this weekend, for fourth place in the section.

If Valley loses both games, Mars is the in regardless of what it does against Knoch Friday night.
