Ethel Marie Bedner, 90, of Karns City, formerly of Kittanning Pike, Chicora, the village of Kepples Corners, was received into our dear Savior's arms at 7:15 a.m. Saturday.

Mrs. Bedner was born in Armstrong Run in Seybertown, Bradys Bend Township, Armstrong County, Aug. 16, 1918. She was the daughter of Edward George and Annice Carrie Bowersox Miller.

She was a life member of the St. Patrick Roman Catholic church in Bradys Bend, and she also was a member of Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic church in Chicora. She was a member of the Altar rosary Society at St. Patrick Roman Catholic church; the former Frogtown Wildlife Club, where she had been president; and the former Karns City Seniors Club.

Mrs. Bedner enjoyed baking bread, making haps, blankets and yo-yo quilts, braiding rag rugs, word search, vegetable and flower gardening, canning, embroidery and especially embroidering pillowcases for her grandchildren, with whom she enjoyed spending time. She also enjoyed praying the rosary and reading her Mother Love Prayer Book several times daily.

In her earlier years, Mrs. Bedner was employed at the East Butler egg auction and also was employed as a housekeeper.

She was married on June 29, 1937, at St. Patrick Roman Catholic church in Bradys Bend to John Bedner. He preceded her in death Aug. 3, 1995.

Mrs. Bedner is survived by two daughters, Bernadette M. McCloskey and her husband, Thomas, and Janice M. Bishop and her husband, Robert A., both of Karns City. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Kimberly Davis and her husband, Daniel, of Howard, Ga., Jennifer Honse and her husband, Heath, of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Jacquelyn Fetchko and her husband, Joseph, of Valencia, Jacob Bishop and his wife, Darcie, of East Brady, Jedidiah Bishop of Karns City, Joshua Bishop and his wife, Ashley, of Karns City, Jolena McFarland and her husband, T.J., of Chicora, and Jocelyn Bishop of Karns City.

Nine great-grandchildren survive, Trinity Ann McFarland, Joseph John Bishop, Avah Grace Bishop, Christina Davis, Amanda Queen, Daniel Davis, Luke Robert John Davis, Rocki Davis, and John E. Bedner III. Six great-great-grandchildren survive, Jasmine Davis, Hannah Davis, Trey Queen, Titan Queen, Gabriella Faith Queen and Jordan Davis. A number of nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Mrs. Bedner was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, John Edward Bedner, who died May 11, 1976; a grandson, John E. Bedner II, who died Dec. 3, 2004; three brothers, Raymond, William, and George Miller; and three sisters, Grace Evelyn Kemery Cochran and two infants, Anna Catherine and Martha Irene.

<B>BEDNER</B> — Friends of Ethel Marie Bedner, who died Saturday, May 30, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>Hile Funeral Home</B>, 339 Chicora Fenelton Road, Chicora. A Mass of Christian burial will be concelebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic church, Chicora, with the Rev. David D. DeWitt, church pastor, and the Rev. Louis W. Cheatham, former pastor of St. Patrick Roman Catholic church, Bradys Bend. Interment will follow at the Hillview Cemetery, Kepples Corners, Fairview Township.The family will pray the rosary at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home followed by a parish prayer service at 8:30 p.m.Memorial contributions in Mrs. Bedner's memory may be given to a veteran's charity of one's choice.Additional information and condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.hilefh.com.
