Roscoe M. Mulvey Jr.

Roscoe M. Mulvey Jr., 92, of Jackson Township passed away Wednesday at UPMC Passavant Hospital in McCandless Township.

Born Aug. 10, 1923, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Roscoe M. Mulvey Sr. and Adalaid (Pritchard) Mulvey.

Roscoe graduated from Bryan College with a bachelor of arts in Christian education in 1954.

He was a member of the Unity Baptist Church in Harlansburg.

He was a staff sergeant in the 53rd AIB, 4th Armored Division of the U.S. Army during World War II. He arrived at Normandy 36 days after D-Day, was wounded in France and arrived at Bastogne the day after Christmas during the Battle of the Bulge. On Jan. 6, 1945, he was given a 37-day furlough and returned to Czechoslovakia, which is where he was when the war ended.

He was a member of the Cranberry VFW and the Ohio Valley Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge, where he served as chaplain. He was also a member of the Resurrection Band and a leader of the AWANA Youth Program for 26 years. In the last four years, he had been making hundreds of tassel caps for various organizations, the latest of which he was making red caps for infants for the American Heart Association.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 68 years, Marjorie (Pflug) Mulvey, whom he married Aug. 29, 1929; three daughters, Mary (Robert) Johnson of Evans City, Martha (Michael) Mine of West Sunbury and Kathleen (Tony) King of Johnsonburg, Pa.; seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Jim) Hartnett, Julie (Dan) Cherry, Scott Johnson, Amy (Charles) Nasiadka, Michelle (Greg) Campbell, Maria (George) Pry and Matthew Mine; 14 great-grandchildren, Cody and Britney Hartnett, Haylee, Gracie and Aubrey Cherry, Sophia Johnson, Tori and Alex Nasiadka, Nicholas, Jacob, Haley, Victoria and Alexandra Pry and Gage Campbell; his sisters, Violet Kirsch of Pittsburgh and Ruth Young of Florida; his sister-in-law, Jane (the late Daniel) Mulvey of Pittsburgh; his brother-in-law, Francis (the late Arlene) Pflug of Fombell; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Roscoe was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel Mulvey; his stepmother, Bertha Dixon Mulvey; two brothers-in-law, Harold Young and Harold Kirsch; and two nephews, Daniel Mulvey and Gary Kirsch.

MULVEY — Friends of Roscoe M. Mulvey Jr., who died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Boylan Funeral Home, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.A funeral ceremony in Roscoe's honor will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Zach Dudenhofer, pastor of the Unity Baptist Church in Harlansburg, and the Rev. Gerald Caskey, the former pastor of the church.Roscoe will be laid to rest with military honors at St. John's Burry's Church Cemetery in New Sewickley Township.The family suggests that donations be made in Roscoe's honor to the Pine Valley Youth Camp, 504 Chapel Drive, Ellwood City, PA 16117 or to the City Rescue Mission, 319 N.
