Meeting scheduled to discuss Community Park operations

Slippery Rock Borough Council will host a discussion about operations and finances of the Community Park, above. Council wants to update the agreement that establishes the park board and sets parameters for park management.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Borough council will host a roundtable discussion about operations and finances of the Community Park at its meeting Tuesday.

The borough invited representatives of Slippery Rock Township, Slippery Rock School District and the park board to participate in the meeting, said Regina Greenwald, council president.

The purpose of the meeting is to begin updating its agreement, which establishes the park board and sets out parameters for park management.

The current agreement was developed in 1998 and adopted in 1999. Greenwald said they hope to have a new agreement approved sometime in 2016.

“We’re going to look at everything. Is it working? Can we do it a better way?” she said.

The park is owned by the borough, but its board includes three members appointed by the borough, three by the township and three by the school district. The three entities involved all contribute financially and with in-kind services.

The park, located off North Main Street, has a manager and an office manager who run recreational programs at the park, which help cover operating expenses.

The public meeting Tuesday will begin at 7 p.m. in the borough building, 306 E. Water St.
