A Butler man, accused of growing marijuana, was sentenced to the Butler County Intermediate Punishment Program in county court on Tuesday.

Lee A. McCandless, 32, was sentenced by county Judge William Shaffer to 30 months of the program, with the first nine months to be served on house arrest with electronic monitoring, and the following 21 months on probation, as well as participation in drug and alcohol treatment.

McCandless previously pleaded guilty to felony possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance in June.

The state police vice unit filed the charges after a search of McCandless' Swamp Run Road home on April 21, 2015, yielded two grow rooms in the garage. Officers seized 60 marijuana plants, most of which were the “starter” variety, documents said.

Additional growing items, including lights, lamps, electric ballasts, thermometer, exhaust system and fertilizer, were confiscated.

Charges were filed on Jan. 26, 2017. He was arraigned and released on $30,000 unsecured bail.
