County gets another cold wake up call today

We woke up to another blast of extremely cold temperatures this morning.

It will warm up a bit later this week, but as meteorologist Lee Hendricks said, “Warm is a relative term,”

The National Weather Service about 7:45 a.m. reported temperatures of 6 degrees in Slippery Rock, 5 degrees in Butler, 5 degrees in Cranberry Township, 4 degrees in Saxonburg and 4 degrees in Sarver.

Wind chills this morning were about 10 below zero, said Hendricks with the weather service. A wind chill of 12 below zero was reported shortly before 6 a.m. at the Butler County Airport.

The low tonight will be 9 degrees. The high on Wednesday will be in the low 20s and the high on Friday will be in the mid-20s. Friday and Saturday, temperatures will be in the upper 20s.

The temperature is projected to hit the low 30s on Sunday.

“That’s about as good as it gets,” Hendricks said.

Some of this could be dampened by the possibility of a snow storm on Friday. Hendricks said it is too early to know whether that is the case right now.

“At this point, there is a potential storm,” Hendricks said.
