The Saturday Night Special band night will return to the Butler Art Center on Feb. 22.

The band night will feature the group Trevolta as well as Miranda Brandon, Halfway Down, End of Thought and Macro Aggression.

The event will run from 6 to 10 p.m. with the doors opening at 5 p.m.

Admission is $3.

[naviga:h3]Students star in classic play

A Cranberry Township student is starring as Juliet in the Shakespeare classic opening Friday at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center in Midland, Beaver County.

Tessa DeJeet will portray the female lead in “Romeo and Juliet,” and Cameron Tino of Mars will play the role of Tybalt.

Other Butler County cast members are Kaylee Bechtold of Mars (Third Watchmen, Ensemble), along with Kyli Burton (Sampson, Petruchio, Ensemble), and Hailey Herrmann (Chorus), both of Cranberry Township.

The show will run through Feb. 23. Tickets are available at www.lincolnparkarts.org/events, or by calling 724-576-4644.

Four performances have sold out, but new dates have been added to accommodate audiences.

[naviga:h3]Art center site of date night[/naviga:h3]

The Butler Art Center will be the site of a Valentine’s Day-themed ceramics workshop.

A Clay Date is being offered from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the art center, 344 S. Main St.

The instructor will be River Soma, a ceramic and mixed media artist who has been working in clay for more than 18 years.

Cost is $50 per pair for this ceramics class.

Participants will create a textured wall plaque, keepsake box or free-form plate. At the end of the workshop, the pieces will be glazed and fired, and available for pickup in the following weeks.

[naviga:h3]Carved in Ice upcoming[/naviga:h3]

The fifth annual Carved in Ice Festival is coming up on Feb. 21 and 22 in downtown Butler.

Events will be from 5 to 8 p.m. in Diamond Park on Feb. 21, and Main Street will not be closed that evening.

In addition to ice sculptures, Friday evening will feature the Butler High School jazz band performing inside the Butler County Symphony Association office, adjacent to the park, with the music transmitted outside in the park.

This year, a second day has been added to the festival on Feb. 22, when hours will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and some roads will be closed.

Saturday’s activities will include a chili cook-off, music, scavenger hunt, balloon artist, face painters, a basket auction and a 50/50 drawing.

Admission is free both days.

[naviga:h3]Mummy Mania at Carnegie[/naviga:h3]

The Carnegie Science Center’s Mummy Mania Weekend is set for Feb. 22 and 23 in Pittsburgh.

Hours for Mummy Mania will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mummy-inspired activities and demonstrations will be offered throughout the Science Center during this special weekend, plus guest experts will offer insights and answer visitor questions inside the exhibition gallery.

Mummies of the World, the largest exhibition of mummies and related artifacts ever assembled, presents a collection of 40 naturally and intentionally preserved mummies and 85 artifacts from all over the world.

Admission to the mummies exhibit is separate from science center admission. The exhibit concludes April 19.
