Rahiser

W. Alvin Rahiser, 92, of Evans City died Saturday at the Passavant Retirement Community, Zelienople.

Born Jan. 20, 1918, in Evans City, he was the son of Walter F. and Alma (Wagner) Rahiser.

Mr. Rahiser was a World War II Army veteran who served in the European theater with the military police platoon of the 104th Infantry Division and was awarded a Bronze Star.

He was a member of the Evans City VFW Post 499 and the Evans City American Legion Post 219.

He enjoyed hunting, spending time outdoors and especially bowling as a member of the VFW League, the Mars and Evans City bowling leagues and a couples league with his wife.

Mr. Rahiser retired from J&L Steel after 33 years.

He is survived by a son, Ed Rahiser and his wife, Fae, of Connoquenessing; a daughter, Julia Knauff and her husband, Ron, of Evans City; two sisters, E. Gene Bayan of Lititz and Nancie Johnson of Coraopolis; three grandchildren, Kyle Knauff, Tiffany Helfrich and Kevin Rahiser; three great- grandchildren, Hannah Knauff, Leah Knauff and Cadin Helfrich; a brother-in-law, Joe Capella of Evans City; and a sister-in-law, Mary McCarty of Arizona. Also surviving are his aunt, Jane McCandless of Mars; five nieces; and four nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 67½ years, Satina (Capella) Rahiser, who died Aug. 20, 2009.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Robert Peterson, officiating.
