Photographs displayed in C.A.N. gallery
Photography by Alicia Stankay is featured by the Cranberry Artists Network through March 31 in the Back Hall Gallery at the Cranberry Township Municipal Center, 2525 Rochester Road.
Stankay is a photographer and fiction writer from Ambridge. She said she enjoys taking photos of flowers, butterflies and colorful mushrooms, and some of her landscape scenes provide the settings for her stories.
Her six books range from short story collections to mystery novels and even include a young teen novel set in Old Economy Village, present and past. All the books feature her photography on the front covers.
The best kind of nature photo draws the viewer into the picture, according to Stankay.
A self-taught photographer, she says the twin keys to a good picture are curiosity and composition.
She had photos juried into the biennial Merrick Masters Exhibitions in 2014, 2016, and 2018, and was also invited to have a photography exhibition at Merrick Art Gallery in New Brighton, which took place in October 2017, called Natural Splendor.
Her photography has been chosen at the juried Cranberry Artists Network shows and the juried Westmoreland Art and Heritage Festival, and her work has also been shown at the Midland Arts Summer Gallery and North Hills Art Center shows.
