Expanded food assistance announced
Gov. Tom Wolf announced Thursday that income eligibility for two food assistance programs has been raised to help support more food-insecure Pennsylvanians.
The maximum income to receive food assistance has been increased from 150% of the federal poverty level to 185%, Wolf said in a news release.
The federal poverty guideline is $13,590 for a one-person household, $18,310 for two and $23,030 for three or more
The programs involved in the increase are the state Food Purchase Program and the Emergency Food Assistance Program.
The release said according to 2019 food insecurity data from Feeding America, more than 10% of state residents, or 1.35 million people, did not always know where their next meal was coming from.
