Mother accused of DUI with child
FAIRVIEW TWP — A 28-year-old mother is accused of driving drunk with her 2-year-old daughter in the vehicle.
State police about 10 p.m. Saturday found Erin L. Maples after getting a call about a woman in a vehicle honking her horn in the driveway of a home on Route 268 in Fairview Township.
Police believe Maples had driven there with her child. She appeared intoxicated, according to court documents, and showed signs of impairment during field sobriety testing.
The defendant later refused to submit to either a breath or blood test.
District Judge Sue Haggerty arraigned Maples on charges of driving under the influence, child endangerment and careless driving.
She was placed in the Butler County Prison on $15,000 bail and on pretrial supervision.
Court records showed that state police in Kittanning arrested Maples for DUI last year. That case is pending in Armstrong County court.
Haggerty, as part of the supervision, ordered the defendant to refrain from alcohol and wear a Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitor bracelet. The tamper-resistant device is typically worn on the ankle and is designed to detect alcohol consumption through the skin.
Maples' preliminary hearing is tentatively set for Jan. 22 at the office of District Judge Lewis Stoughton in Chicora.
Police said her 2-year-old daughter remains in the custody of relatives.
