JACKSON TWP — Through two games of the 2010 season, the Seneca Valley football team has made one thing perfectly clear: It owns the second half.

For the second straight game, the Raiders dominated the final two quarters, outgaining Fox Chapel 269-91 in that span and posting a 40-14 win at NexTier Stadium Friday night.

Coupled with last week's win at Norwin, SV has outscored its opponents 66-10 in the second half.

The Raiders and Foxes were tied 7-7 at halftime. In the first two quarters, the visitors had run 25 offensive plays to the Raiders' 14, with Fox Chapel holding the ball for more than 18 minutes of that span.

"Fox Chapel was playing keep-away in that first half, and it was working for them," said Raiders coach Don Holl. "We had to do something to change that."

And SV wasted no time doing it, as Troy Witt returned the second half kickoff 61 yards.

After a block-in-the-back penalty on the Raiders, the team set up shop at the Foxes 39.

Three plays later, Witt finished what he started, taking a handoff from Donny Holl through the teeth of Fox Chapel's defense and scoring from 34 yards out.

The Foxes' offense, which relied on the running of halfback Montay Green to dictate the pace in the first half, had no answer.

The team went three-and-out on its first three drives of the second half.

Donny Holl added a 33-yard scoring run and he completed a short slant pass to wideout Oliver Philogene, who turned it into a 42-yard touchdown reception and the Raiders led 27-7 after three periods.

Junior running back David Hall proved to be another catalyst for the Raiders (2-0), gaining 76 yards and scoring a touchdown on seven carries.

Included was a 33-yard run late in the third quarter in which Hall broke four tackles.

"I know Fox Chapel has a good back with Green, but you would be hard pressed to find a better run than David's tonight," said Coach Holl. "And Oliver's getting more comfortable in the offense. We have to find more ways to get him involved.

"Our defense came up with a couple of big stops and then we hit another gear on offense," he added.

Green opened the scoring when he capped a 15-play, 79-yard drive with a 2-yard scoring run early in the second quarter.

Hall's 5-yard plunge evened the score for the Raiders later in the period.

Fox Chapel (0-2) had a halftime lead in its sights, but Noah Rosen's 32-yard field goal attempt sailed wide left with 16 seconds left in the second quarter.

"That missed field goal really hurt," said Foxes coach Bryan Deal. "We played right to our game plan in the first half. We shortened the game and kept Seneca Valley off the field."

The Raiders host Erie McDowell next Friday.
