CRANBERRY TWP — A Cleveland man accused of carrying a firearm without a license and as a felon waived his charges to court Friday.

Michael L. Crawford, 45, faces charges of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, carrying a firearm without a license, both felonies, and misdemeanor counts of possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and two traffic violations. According to court documents, State Police pulled over Crawford about 5 p.m. Jan. 5 on the Pennsylvania Turnpike on-ramp at Interstate 79 in Cranberry Township after noticing heavily tinted windows on his pickup truck. Troopers reported a strong odor of marijuana coming from the truck, according to court documents. A search of the vehicle turned up a film container with suspected marijuana that was in the center ashtray. Police seized a loaded 9 mm pistol from the center console, documents said. Crawford admitted that he did not have a license to carry the gun, police said. He also allegedly acknowledged that he had prior felony convictions. Police said they confirmed those priors in Ohio for “drug violations” and “possessing a firearm under disability.”

Crawford waived all charges to higher court during Friday's hearing before District Judge David Kovach. His original $25,000 monetary bond was altered to $10,000 monetary, though court documents indicate he is unable to post bond. A formal arraignment is set for March 5.
