Driver dies, two young children OK after police chase
BRADY TWP — Two young children escaped serious injuries, but the driver died in a violent crash Wednesday that followed a police chase brought on by an expired inspection sticker.
The children, both girls, ages 1 and 2, suffered only minor injuries. Both were secured in child safety seats, which probably saved their lives, rescuers agreed.
Killed was Adam J. Williams, 20, of Karns City. He was partially ejected through driver's side window.
Police would not disclose the relationship among the occupants in the car.
Moments before the crash, police said a trooper was trying to stop Williams for a minor traffic violation — having an expired inspection sticker — when he sped off in his car.
The chase began about 1:20 p.m. on Muddy Creek Drive, south of Staff Road.
Williams raced southbound in his 1991 Mitsubishi Eclipse. The girls were in the back seat.
Authorities believe Williams lost control of his car at a bend in the road, veered across the northbound lane, traveled up an embankment rolled over at least once and landed back on the road, on its wheels.
It appeared the driver's side of the car had taken the brunt of the impact.
