NEW CASTLE — The Lawrence County Historical Society will give the ninth annual Children's History Festival and Ice Cream Social on July 12 on the History Center grounds, 408 N. FRANKLIN — The second Smoke on the Allegheny Barbecue Cook-Off Competition will take place July 11 to 13 at Rocky Grove Volunteer Fire Department Firegrounds, 29 Shuffstall St. The open cook-off will be held July 13.The grounds will be open from 6 to 10 p.m. July 11 and 12 and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 13. Music is planned.Entry fee for professional cook teams is $50. Prizes for professionals will be awarded at 5:30 p.m. July 12.The amateur cook-off begins at 8 a.m. July 13. PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Songwriters Project will premier its work at Calliope: The Pittsburgh Folk Music Society's "Rootz: The Green City Music Festival," a free daylong music festival on July 12 at Mellon Park in the Shadyside section of Pittsburgh.Performances are scheduled from 11:45 a.m. to 10 p.m. Children's activities will be offered from noon to 4:30 p.m.Admission is free.
