Knoch boys runners settle some scores
The Knoch boys cross country team had a memorable afternoon Tuesday.
With wins over Seneca Valley (28-30) and Hampton (25-30), the Knights accomplished four feats.
It marked the first time the Knights have ever defeated both Hampton and Seneca Valley.
The two victories gave Knoch a total of 17 wins on the season, a school record.
Knoch finishes runner-up in Section 3-AAA with a 6-1 record, second only to North Allegheny.
The win over Seneca Valley means Knoch defeated the seven other teams in Butler County this season.
"Since we went up against and defeated the other teams in the county, we consider ourselves to be county champions," said Knoch coach Wess Brahler.
Tuesday's wins were led by Artie Black's first-place time of 17 minutes, 23 seconds.
Kyle Reeping finished second and Ben Hutterer third to give the Knights a sweep of the top three.
SV's boys gained a split by defeated Hampton 25-30.
Seneca Valley won the girls competitions, 15-48 over Knoch and 23-38 over Hampton.
The Raiders' Megan Powell paced the field with a time of 20:24.

Warriors drop three of four
- The Moniteau boys team dropped a pair of 27-28 decisions to Brookville and Kane.
Eric Hillard placed second overall in the meet with a time of 18 minutes, six seconds.
On the girls side, the Warriors topped Kane 19-40, but fell to Brookville 20-39.
Amy Gladd was Moniteau's top finisher, coming in fourth place with a time of 23:28.

- Brittany Zaborowski placed first with a time of 22:32 to lead Mars to a 21-42 win over Sewickley Academy.
On the boys side, Mars beat New Brighton 18-42, but fell to Sewickley Academy 27-29.
Cody Kier finished second for Mars with a time of 18:58.

Jill Laux placed second for the Rockets' girls, but the squad dropped a one-point decision. In the boys meet, Titusville nabbed the top seven places to roll to the win.
Slippery Rock (4-2 girls, 2-4 boys) will compete at Saturday's Rocky Grove Invitational.

Jenna Rinker, a Slippery Rock High School freshman, recently qualified for the girls District 10 Championship slated this week at Riverside Golf Club in Cambridge Springs.Rinker placed 12th out of 40 girls at North Hills Golf Course in Corry last week, carding a 103 for 18 holes.
