Callihan breaks KC scoring record

Karns City’s Tyler Callihan scored 22 points to become the school’s all-time leading boys scorer in a 69-64 loss to DuBois Central Catholic Monday.

Callihan, who also had eight rebounds and seven assists, surpassed Doug Rodgers (1,448) and finished the game with 1,462 career points.

The Gremlins (16-7) also received 12 points and eight boards from Ryan Earley and 12 points from Nathan Knox.

Matt Beracallo poured in 34 points to power DuBois Central.

Butler finished in second place and Seneca Valley was third behind Oakland (W.Va.) at the 16-team Montour Tournament over the weekend.Butler had second-place performances from Decker Hubbs (112), Ian McLaughlin (119), Alex Evanoff (125) and Marcus Hough (275) while Stewart Rapone (135) and Josh Coburn (145) was third and Rob Runyan (103), Aaron Pascazi (152) and Ryan Eck (189) was fourth.The Tornado had nine of its 12 competitors place and had 10 wrestlers reach the semifinals entering Saturday’s portion of the tournament.Hough beat a pair of seeded wrestlers to reach the finals.“Marcus showed a lot of progress this week and Stewart Rapone had a breakout performance,” said Butler coach Scott Stoner. “His only loss was to (Seneca Valley’s) Lee Layton in the semis.”Butler returns to action Friday in a home dual match against Mt. Lebanon for Senior Recognition Night.

In PIHL action from Monday, Mars defeated Forest Hills 3-2, North Allegheny blanked Butler 5-0 and Upper St. Clair dispatched Seneca Valley 7-1.
