Sankey 65th anniversary
Theodore “Bob” and Frances “Alene” Sankey of Butler celebrated 65 years of marriage with a family dinner June 6 at their home.
Sankey married the former Frances Hinchberger on June 6, 1946, at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler.
They have six children, Thomas Sankey of Columbus, Ga., Barbara Malis, Donna Huff and Jacqueline Daugherty, all of Butler, Edwin Sankey of Bradenton, Fla., and Ron Sankey of Butler. They also have 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Sankey is a retired Lt. Colonel of the U.S. Army. He worked in hospital purchasing and administration for Allegheny General Hospital, Butler Memorial Hospital and the Hospital Council of Western Pennsylvania. He served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam and is a Cold War and Atomic Veteran with 6Z\x years in combat. He was the Veteran of the Year for Butler County in 1998 and Disabled Veteran of the Year in 1999. He is a member of VFW Post 249, Michael Kosar American Legion Post 778 of Lyndora, General Richard Butler DAV Chapter 64 and a past member of the Veteran’s Ceremonial Squad. He is past president of Butler Little League, the last living charter member of the South Butler Volunteer Fire Department and a past member of the Jefferson Township Planning Commission and the Knights of Columbus.
Mrs. Sankey is a homemaker. She belongs to the South Butler volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. She is a 25-year volunteer for the American Red Cross at Army hospitals, Butler Memorial Hospital and VA Butler Healthcare Healthcare.
They belong to St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, where Mr. Sankey was a past president of the church council and an usher for many years.
