Man accused of raping girls
CENTER TWP — A township man is accused of raping two girls after plying them both with liquor.
Austin Chalmers Miller, 21, turned himself in to state police Wednesday afternoon. District Judge Lewis Stoughton arraigned the suspect, who later that night posted $150,000 bail and was released from the Butler County Prison.
Miller faces 18 charges, including 10 felonies, in the alleged sexual assaults last month at the home of one of the girls in Center Township.
Police began their investigation Dec. 30 after the girls, 14 and 15, first notified authorities.
The younger child recounted that Miller came to her home on Dec. 15 with a case of Mike’s Hard Lemonade and a bottle of liquor. She drank both alcoholic beverages and became “dizzy” and “slow,” according to court documents.
The older girl also was visiting the home when Miller left to go hunting and then returned, police said.
When he returned, he allegedly raped both girls.
The 14-year-old told investigators that she told Miller to “stop” and she heard the older girl tell him “no,” a police affidavit said.
The 15-year-old’s account in the charging documents seemed to corroborate the other girl’s allegations.
The older child said Miller also provided alcohol to her. Before the alleged sexual assault, she recalled, she told him her age.
She related that she told the suspect that “she didn’t want to do it,” the affidavit said.
She told investigators, too, that she and Miller had sex during a previous visit at the same house.
Miller is charged with four counts each of rape and statutory sexual assault, and two counts of corruption of minors, all felonies. He is charged with two misdemeanor counts of corruption of minors.
Additional charges include two counts each of indecent assault, indecent exposure and furnishing alcohol to minors, all misdemeanors.
A preliminary hearing is tentatively set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Stoughton’s office in Chicora.
Miller’s attorney, Michael Zunder, did not immediately return a telephone call this morning.
