CRANBERRY TWP — A pair from Beaver County were charged after allegedly going on a shoplifting spree through Cranberry Township and the North Hills.

Torrie McDade, 27, of New Brighton and Christopher Lee Smith, 32, of Monaca were finally caught in Cranberry after what police say was a day of stealing items from businesses in Cranberry, McCandless and Ross townships.

Cranberry Township Police responded to Walmart around 10:20 a.m. May 30 for a report of a retail theft. A female in a pink tank top was seen fleeing in a white Ford Expedition with a male passenger.

Walmart manager Anthony Corsoe said he saw McDade walking around the store with merchandise in her hands when she grabbed several plastic bags from a shelf. When he asked her why she was grabbing the bags, she became argumentative and ran out of the store through the gardening section and got into the Ford, according to court documents.

Officers tracked down the vehicle, registered to C W Smith Contracting in Beaver Falls, traveling west on Freedom Road. As Smith and McDade exited the vehicle, police said they saw a large amount of clothing and other merchandise laying in the front and back of the car.

Smith told police, “She's been stealing stuff all day and I didn't know what to do.”

Smith said he and McDade had been driving around in his mother's vehicle to different stores. Smith would stay in the car while McDade would go in and steal things, according to police.

They went to Walmart in Cranberry, Dick's Sporting Goods and Giant Eagle in McCandless, and Home Depot and Office Max in Ross, taking $1,144 in merchandise from the Ross and McCandless stores and about $433 from the Cranberry Walmart, police said.

A search of the car revealed a large amount of merchandise and a glass tube with a burnt end. McDade admitted to smoking crack cocaine earlier that day, police said.

McDade was charged with felony retail theft and criminal conspiracy, misdemeanor receiving stolen property and driving under the influence, and driving with a suspended license. McDade's criminal history revealed five prior convictions for retail theft, according to the affidavit.

Smith was charged with receiving stolen property and conspiracy. Both waived their charges to county court on June 30.

Smith will be arraigned on Aug. 8.

McDade will be formally arraigned on Aug. 21.
