Police seek information about robbery

BUTLER TWP — Police are reviewing surveillance footage of a possible armed robbery Sunday afternoon at a video game store at the Butler Commons shopping plaza.

Investigators hope the security video at the Game Stop store could help identity the unknown robber, Butler Township Police Chief John Hays said this morning.

“We’re looking at that video and any surveillance video at surrounding businesses,” Hays said.

According to a police report, a white man in his 20s walked into the Game Stop about 3 p.m. and demanded merchandise and money.

“He said he had a gun but never brandished one,” Hays said of the suspect.

The robber forced both employees at the store into a back room and made off with an undisclosed amount of money and merchandise. Hays said the stolen money was less than $500.

No one was hurt in the robbery. Police do not know if the man left in a getaway car or ran off.

The suspect wore dark clothing including a hooded sweat shirt and pants. He also donned a hat, scarf and glasses “to help conceal his identity,” the police report said.

Hays noted that police are also trying to track down possible witnesses who may have seen the robber leave the store.

Additionally, investigators are checking with other police departments to see if any similar robberies have been reported lately.

Anyone with information about the Butler Township case is asked to call police at 724-285-9600.
