11:23 p.m. Monday — Dennis J. Crawford Jr., 41, of Butler was arrested after allegedly assaulting his roommate and her infant son at their apartment in the 300 block of South Chestnut Street.Crawford is accused of snatching Tonya Claypool by the throat. When he let go of her, Claypool got her cell phone and tried to call police. He grabbed the phone and broke it.The women left the apartment and used another phone to call for help. Crawford, meanwhile, ran up the steps with Claypool's son and “aggressively threw” the child onto a couch, documents said.Officers got to the apartment but Crawford tried to keep them from entering. Police said they had to use a “substantial amount of force” to arrest the suspect.Crawford was arraigned on two counts of simple assault and charges of reckless endangerment, resisting arrest and criminal mischief. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $20,000 bail, following arraignment.
Monday — Two Butler men are accused in the Oct. 1 theft of jewelry from a home on Elizabeth Drive. Police charged Thomas Rodgers, 47, and Steven Saeler, 35, after finding they had allegedly pawned several pieces of the stolen jewelry. Both men are charged with theft and receiving stolen property.Monday — Melissa Ann Fortini, 38, of Butler was charged with drunken driving in connection with a suspected hit-and-run crash about 10 p.m. Oct. 4 on Evans Road.In addition to driving under the influence and hit-and-run, Fortini is charged with driving at an unsafe speed, reckless driving, failing to immediately notify police of an accident, failing to give information after an accident and making false reports.Monday — Police filed charges against Bradley M. Zurzolo, 21, of Butler stemming from the suspected Aug. 19 break-in of a vehicle on Whitestown Road. Zurzolo is charged with theft from a vehicle and receiving stolen property.8:52 p.m. Saturday — Vehicles driven by Darlene Geibel, 65, of Saxonburg and Ashley Marra, 19, of Butler collided at Highland Avenue and South Woodlawn Road. Police cited Geibel for running a stop sign.11:15 a.m. Saturday — Warren J. Green, 38, of Herman was caught allegedly shoplifting a bottle of doe urine at the Trader Horn store in the Greater Butler Mart. Green is charged with retail theft.7:45 a.m. Thursday — One 15-year-old student was cited for disorderly conduct after allegedly hitting another 15-year-old student in the throat at Butler Intermediate High School. No injuries were reported.
11:20 p.m. Saturday — Derek Hedglin, 31, of Grove City was caught riding an all-terrain vehicle on the railroad tracks in the 100 block of Park Street. Police cited Hedglin for trespass.Friday — An unidentified hit-and-run vehicle struck a white Suzuki Kizashi in the borough parking lot between 5:30 p.m. Thursday and 12:30 p.m. Friday. Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call police at 724-458-7925.
12:15 a.m. Sunday — Dominic Moore, 19, of Penn Hills, Allegheny County, was allegedly drunk and disorderly while trying to board a Slippery Rock University courtesy bus at the University Village apartments in Slippery Rock Township. Police cited Moore for disorderly conduct, public drunkenness and underage drinking.
6:10 p.m. Saturday — A car driven by Christine Lowes, 63, of Natrona Heights, Allegheny County, rear-ended another car on Route 356 at the Route 28 on-ramp in Buffalo Township, Butler County. Lowes was cited for driving at an unsafe speed. Jaida S. Baum, 28, of Freeport was the other driver.
